You’re working on your Mac, when you think of something to add to your daily note in Obsidian. The usual procedure involves —

  • Switching apps, via keyboard shortcut or the dock

  • Being distracted by whatever file is already open

  • Navigating to your daily note (or other target file)

Not so hard, but why not cut those three steps down to one?

Because you can.

Let’s look at how to dive straight into any note in your vault, from anywhere on your Mac. It’s like teleporting straight to your favourite section of the library, bypassing the hot doughnut shop (or chatty friend) you’d have to walk past if you went the regular route.

Ingredients

All you need for this tutorial are two plugins, and one paid Mac app.

  • Periodic Notes plugin

  • Hotkeys for specific files plugin

  • The Keyboard Maestro app (there’s a free trial, but the $36 one-time price is absolutely worth it)
